About the Team

Children, Youth and Families (CYF) provides integrated programs that support all children, young people, and their families in Tasmania. Youth Justice Services includes Ashley Youth Detention Centre (AYDC) which provides 24-hour residential youth justice services.

We work in collaboration, using trauma informed practice, to maximise a young person’s potential and participation on return to the community.

About the Role

Youth Workers provide supervision to some of our most vulnerable young people, in a residential custody setting.

Working as part of a team we provide high quality care, support, supervision, positive leadership, and engagement of young people in their programs and activities that promote learning, fun and personal development. We establish positive professional relationships with the young people in the context of therapeutic and trauma informed care practices, using positive leadership, reinforcing boundaries, and following operating procedures.

These young people are highly vulnerable, most coming from traumatic backgrounds and can display unpredictable or aggressive behaviour. It is fundamental that we can remain calm, be resilient, and respond to challenging behaviours using approved de-escalation and intervention techniques, ensuring the safety and security of the centre, residents, and colleagues.
