Dja Dja Wurrung Clans Aboriginal Corporation trading as DJAARA are seeking a Native Title and Generalist Lawyer who will work with and support a critical area of the business in the Recognition and Settlement Agreement (RSA) Implementation Unit. The successful person will report to the Program Manager.

How can you make an impact?

Being part of the Recognition and Settlement Agreement Team, you will be responsible for ensuring maximum use and enhancement of Dja Dja Wurrung Clans rights by providing native title and generalist advice. The area of work is exciting as it is a growing and unique area of the business and will afford the opportunity to develop and implement strategy from the outcomes of the High Court of Australia’s Timber Creek decision.

What will you bring?

  • Direct hands-on experience in native title Law and/or litigation and commercial law
  • Excellent legal research and analytical skills, including the ability to analyse complex historical and cultural materials
  • Ability to provide high quality legal advice to the Dja Dja Wurrung group of companies, and brief Counsel
  • Strong drafting and communication skills, including the ability to prepare clear and concise legal documents and reports
  • Sound judgment and decision-making skills, including the ability to manage competing priorities and meet deadlines
  • Exhibit knowledge of the cultural, political, economic, environmental, and social issues that impact First Nations people
  • An understanding of the importance and meaning of the 2013 Recognition and Settlement Agreement
