Role Purpose
The Health Delivery and Engagement Lead will provide strategic leadership to drive the development and implementation of strategies aimed to improve access to effective health and wellbeing support for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples living with diabetes.
As an Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander leader in Queensland, this position participates in the development, delivery and maintenance of activities that contribute to the multi-disciplinary decision making for service design, compliance, budget development, resource management and growth opportunities.
In alignment with Diabetes Australia's vision of working towards a world free from diabetes for all Australians, this is an identified Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander position which is supported under s25 of the Anti-discrimination Act 1991.
Key Responsibilities
- Engagement with relevant stakeholders internal and external, to advance the strategies and outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people's health.
- Advocate, influence and actively shape Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community engagement and partnerships to build capacity, through the use of research and localised community data.
- Work with the National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Engagement Team to ensure strategies and activities align and provide
- Lead the development, delivery and evaluation of diabetes education programs and health promotion activities in collaboration with the Diabetes Queensland Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health Team.
- Strengthen local engagement and collaboration with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities to increase awareness of NDSS registration, programs, and services for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
- Deliver evidence-based diabetes prevention and self-management education programs face-to-face across Queensland and online.
- Complete stakeholder engagement reporting accurately and promptly to ensure key performance indicators are met.
- Provide information, advice and action inquires on diabetes and associated health matters within scope of practice.
- Ensure compliance with relevant legislation and policies and ensure practices are inclusive and free from bias.
- Model the principles and values of Diabetes Australia Group and behave and communicate as a fair and ethical professional.
- Represent Diabetes Queensland and the Diabetes Australia Group by providing expertise and contribution to relevant state-wide events, meetings, forums, and activities
Key Capabilities
- Tertiary qualifications in a relevant discipline (Health, Human Services, Community Services) with leadership experience in a health services organisation or equivalent.
- Successful engagement of people, adaptable and agile in a changing environment with a commitment to collaboration and communication with internal and external stakeholders.
- Strong interpersonal skills with an ability to build and sustain quality relationships with stakeholders, in particular Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and services.
- Demonstrated high level written and verbal communication skills, including reports and public presentations.
- Demonstrated experience in the development, implementation and evaluation of health or community programs with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities.
- Ability to travel and a current driver's licence, regular travel will be required to various locations in urban and regional and remote Queensland.
