The Research Integrity Unit creates a culture of research integrity across Deakin University, to enable sustainable, world class research, which is compliant with a range of federal, state, local and international legislative requirements.

The Human Research Ethics Administrator provides procedural advice and support to staff and students regarding Human Research Ethics requirements applicable to the Faculties, Institutes and Research Centres, and supports compliance with the Australian Code for the Responsible Conduct of Research, and other research integrity requirements and legislation.

The incumbent provides key administrative support to Deakin’s Human Research Ethics Committee (DUHREC) in its review of ethics applications, enabling Deakin researchers’ to comply with the National Statement on Ethical Conduct in Human Research.

Your key responsibilities will include:

  • Providing superior administrative and secretarial support to DUHREC, including arranging meetings, preparing agendas, minutes and correspondence (as required).
  • Attending to all communication requirements in an efficient and timely manner including provision of advice, responses to email queries with appropriate reference to policy, guidelines and National Statement as appropriate
  • Developing a detailed understanding of human ethics processes and forms and ensure applications are processed efficiently and accurately and records are maintained carefully, prepare standard documents, manage records, regularly track progress of work tasks and identify key issues.
  • Taking responsibility and show initiative in responding to requests from DUHREC and Deakin researchers and raise items/questions with the HRE team, Adviser and/or Senior Adviser as required.
  • Building productive relationships with a diverse range of existing stakeholders and actively seek to maintain positive relationships and lines of communication within the HRE team, RI team, with members of DUHREC, HEAG (faculty) staff and Deakin researchers and students while delivering all the responsibilities of the role.
  • Understanding and apply that understanding of the importance of teamwork and of respectful and effective communication amongst team members and build rapport within immediate team in ways that are respectful and inclusive of others.

To be successful, you’ll have:

  • Completion of a degree or an equivalent combination of relevant experience and/or education/training.
  • Experience in high level administration involving complex documentation in a large organisation with detailed structures, policies and procedures.
  • Experience in a high-pressure, diverse environment, involving online, face to face, telephone and written communication.
  • Experience with confidential documentation/matters.
  • Experience in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Excel, Word), MS Teams, Zoom, database/information systems.
  • Experience with Research Master database *Desirable
  • An understanding of research integrity matters and/or experience with human research ethics committees (HRECs), issues and/or guidelines *Desirable
