About DVCS

Diamond Valley Community Support (DVCS) is a not-for-profit charitable organisation that has been serving the local Diamond Valley community since 1972. DVCS services are free, confidential, impartial, and independent.

We assist over 5,000 people experiencing financial and/or personal hardship each year, and we are supported by more than 100 volunteers and 6 staff. Our Services Include: Emergency Relief, Education Support, Financial Counselling, Personal Counselling, Legal Service, Tax Help, and a Volunteers Resource Hub.

DVCS currently operates the Kingsbury Drive Community Market, Hurstbridge Market, Library Place Market Eltham, Macleod Market, Ivanhoe Market along with 2 other social enterprises, being the Diamond Creek Op Shop and Macleod Op Shop. All proceeds from our Social Enterprises assist those who are experiencing hardship or vulnerability in our community.

Our organisational focus is on Strengthening Our Community as an initiative that encompasses all DVCS programs and those groups we work with.

The Position

  • We are seeking a vibrant and well-organised person reporting to the Markets and Events Coordinator and Executive Officer, supporting all operational aspects of the markets on the market day, including set up, pack down, directing stallholders to their locations, and creating a positive working relationship with stallholders and visitors.
  • This role is a casual position.
  • The Kingsbury Drive market operates every Sunday, except for 2-3 designated closure days through the year. The workday commences at 6:00am and we schedule 2 shifts on each market day. One shift is 3 hours in duration and the other until closure (approximately 2pm)
  • The ability to be able to work at our other markets, which operate one day per month on a Saturday or Sunday is also required. They commence at 6:30am to 7:00am dependent on the specific market.
  • Employment is subject to a satisfactory CrimCheck Report and a current Working with Children Card is required.

Conditions

  • All conditions are based on Miscellaneous award level 2 and the relevant National Standards.
  • We will pay at award rates which is currently $30.10/hour for casual work Mon-Fri
  • Saturday and Sunday work will be paid at the same award rate equivalent to Sunday casual rates which is currently $42.14/hour. Market day leaders receive an additional allowance on the day of $3.48/hr ($45.62)

Key Responsibilities

Scope of works includes, but not limited to:

  • Being on the market site by start time on market day to assist with management of the flow of traffic and allocation of stalls.
  • Assist with ensuring that all moving traffic is out of the market area by market start.
  • Ensuring that the market signage are prominently displayed on site.
  • Ensuring that market conditions are adhered to by all stall holders.
  • Reporting to Market Day leader any disputes between stall holders onsite.
  • Assist with supervision of public safety and respond to queries from the public.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Experience in organising community market or events.
  • The ability to step in and lead market days and provide market administration support would be an advantage.

Key Selection Criteria

The Market Assistant must have demonstrated abilities in:

  • Communication skills
  • Negotiating skills
  • Organising skills
  • Must have a vehicle to be able to put out signage or carry items if required.
  • Proven ability in coordination and management of events would be advantageous.
