DT Global is seeking a Communications Specialist, on behalf of the Office of the Pacific, within the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade’s (DFAT), Pacific COVID-19 Response Package Support Unit.
The Office of the Pacific, within the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT), is building its capacity to assess and respond to the profound economic shock to the Pacific arising from the COVID-19 pandemic, including through the delivery of a $250 million Pacific COVID-19 Response Package over 2020-21 and 2021-22. The Response Package will assist Pacific countries and Timor Leste in weathering the economic impacts of COVID-19 and better position them for recovery.
Given the high-profile nature of this work, DFAT will need an experienced Communications Specialist to ensure messaging about the response package is accurate, clear, coherent and suitably pitched to different audiences, both in Australia and in Pacific Island Countries.
KEY DUTIES
- Produce communications material for DFAT Canberra and on behalf of DFAT’s Pacific Posts.
- Prepare media releases, social media posts (possibly including videos), briefings, speeches and other communications to a range of audiences.
- Provide advice on communication strategies to different contexts.
- Monitor media reporting of relevant developments in the Pacific.
- Establish and maintain productive and harmonious relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including journalists.
- Support the Recovery Team on other duties as required.
SELECTION CRITERIA
- Tertiary qualifications in Communications or related field.
- Strong experience in communications management, preferably in the context of the Pacific.
- Ability to write to final standard a variety of communication products suited to different audiences, including human interest stories and internal summary briefings.
- Experience in using social media, including videos.
- Ability to deliver product under tight deadlines and/or where scope is unclear.
- Ability to work well in a team, and to form/maintain strong relationships with external stakeholders.
- Understanding of developmental economic concepts and issues.
- Understanding of DFAT and Australian Government communication policies.
- Understanding of Pacific audiences in terms of their use of social and conventional media.
