The First Peoples - State Relations Group is responsible for ground-breaking work in the areas of cultural rights, self-determination, treaty, and truth.

The responsibilities of the Policy, Communication and Coordination Branch include leading and facilitating a whole of government, coordinated, and focused approach on Aboriginal affairs to improve outcomes for First Peoples and supporting the Premier and the Minister for Treaty and First Peoples to deliver on cross-government responsibilities and commitments.

As the Senior Policy Officer, you will develop and provide strategic, clear, evidence-based and solution-focussed policy advice to DPC executives, the Minister for Treaty and First Peoples, and the Premier on self-determination reforms. Preparing correspondence, briefings, Cabinet submissions and reports on sensitive issues to a high standard within tight timelines for the Minister for Treaty and First Peoples, the Premier, Secretary and executives will be an essential requirement of this role.

About you

  • An understanding and awareness of Aboriginal self-determination reform priorities for Victorian Aboriginal communities.
  • Strong interpersonal and negotiation skills
  • Excellent analytical and conceptual skills
  • Highly developed written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to contribute to the initiation, delivery and management of strategic projects to a high standard
