TIS National is an interpreting service provided by the Department Home Affairs for people who do not speak English and for agencies and businesses that need to communicate with their non-English speaking clients. 

TIS National supports the Australian Government’s National Border Security priorities, Digital Transformation initiatives and Multicultural Access and Equity objectives. It provides high quality, cost efficient and secure services, assisting non-English speakers to effectively communicate with government departments and agencies, healthcare service providers, police and emergency services, utilities, banks and other private businesses. 

TIS National is one of the largest public sector interpreting service providers in Australia. It has a well-established innovation strategy that strongly focuses on improving service provision through digital channels, with the capability to supply security-cleared interpreters to meet the intelligence, investigation and compliance needs of the Australian Border Force and associated agencies. 

With more than 40 years’ experience in the interpreting industry, TIS National provides telephone interpreting services 24 hours a day, every day of the year, as well as video remote and on-site (face-to-face) interpreting by appointment.

TIS National provides the following services:

  • Immediate phone interpreting
  • ATIS automated immediate phone interpreting
  • Pre-booked phone interpreting
  • Pre-booked on-site interpreting
  • Pre-booked remove video interpreting
  • Specialist services. 

About the role:

TIS National has several APS 5 positions available across different areas of the section. The roles include:

  • Interpreter Liaison Officer
  • Specialist Services Supervisor
  • Client Liaison Front Line Supervisor
  • Client Liaison Senior Account Manager
  • Free Interpreting Service Senior Account Manager
  • Accounts Supervisor
  • Workforce Planning Supervisor 

These roles offer applicants the opportunity to play an part in providing vital interpreting services which support the Government’s social cohesion objectives and help meet Access and Equity obligations. We make a difference to the lives of non-English speaking Australians and the agencies they need to communicate with every day. The roles also support the Department, including the Australian Border Force and associated agencies, to fulfil important intelligence, investigation and compliance functions. 

Some roles offer opportunities to lead small to medium teams while others may not supervise staff but require skills in other areas. Successful applicants will utilise their skills and experience across a broad range of TIS National functions, including stakeholder engagement with interpreters and agency clients, provision of specialist services, client invoicing, accounts and debt management, and workforce management for our 60 seat contact
