Based in Rinyirru (Lakefield) National Park (Cape York Peninsula Aboriginal Land) (CYPAL), this position leads a team of ten Rangers in collaboration with Joint Management partners to manage protected area estate including Lama Lama National Park (CYPAL) and Rinyirru (Lakefield) National Park. Both of these National Parks are jointly managed by the Rinyirru Aboriginal Corporation, Lama Lama Land Trust (respectively) and the Queensland Government in accordance with an Indigenous Management Agreement (IMA).
This position requires strong leadership, communication, people management and cultural diversity skills and experience. You will be responsible for the maintenance of parks infrastructure, annual budget and capital works programs, staff dynamics, management and training, and associated administration and reporting functions across departmental programs.
Key focus areas for this position are planning and delivery of fire management plans, weed and pest management to support the natural environment of the park and coordination of compliance activities associated with patrols across high visitor areas. Due to the remote location and periods of inaccessibility by road during the wet season, the Ranger In Charge will need to be comfortable with extended periods of team seclusion, be self-sufficient, resilient, with forethought and possess practical and problem-solving skills.
A strong focus on both people management and team development will see you succeed in this position, along with your high-level influence to operationally achieve through others best practices and desirable outcomes for the parks. This role supports conservation goals and the cultural protection of National Park, and the safety of staff and visitors.
