Agency overview

The Department of Communities and Justice (DCJ) is the lead agency under the Stronger Communities Cluster. DCJ works to enable everyone's right to access justice and help for families through early intervention and inclusion, with benefits for the whole community. Stronger Communities is focussed on achieving safe, just, inclusive and resilient communities by providing services that are effective and responsive to community needs. For the first time, the creation of DCJ and Stronger Communities provides an opportunity to focus on prevention and early intervention across both the social welfare and justice systems.

Aboriginal Strategy – Housing, Homelessness and Disability (ASHHD) is the central consultation and coordination point for Aboriginal Housing, Homelessness and Disability policy and strategy in DCJ. We are a small team that leverage our position in the Aboriginal Strategy, Coordination and Evaluation (ASCE) Unit of the Partnerships directorate, and our close working relationship with the Housing, Homelessness and Disability (HHD) directorate; to provide and facilitate Aboriginal client and cultural perspectives on housing, homelessness and disability strategy, programs and policy.

About the role

  • You will also support the secretariat functions for the Aboriginal Outcomes Housing, Homelessness and Disability Work Group (WG) and/or the Ngarra (Housing and Homelessness Aboriginal Staff Network). • In this position you will contribute to annual contracting, tendering and engagement activities. You will consult, link and liaise with external stakeholders, and staff from across DCJ central the districts. You will routinely contribute to ASHHD feedback and consultation on policy, program and strategy development lead by other DCJ and external agency teams. You will have the opportunity to draft policy documents and responses to queries.

Desirable Experience

  • Ideally, you have experience working either with Aboriginal Peoples and communities or working for better outcomes for our Mobs, in a policy, strategy or commissioning setting.
  • You are comfortable providing feedback and analysing policy and program documents and are confident with business writing. Transferable skills based on broader experience will be considered.
