The Spinifex people, including those residents at Tjuntjuntjara, are represented by the Pila Nguru Corporation, the native title representative body in the Spinifex native title area. Within this native title area, Paupiyala Tjarutja Aboriginal Corporation (PTAC) manages all services at Tjuntjuntjara community and Ilkurlka, including the Spinifex Health Service which is an Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Organisation (ACCHO). PTAC is a non-profit community organisation governed by the Tjuntjuntjara community’s Board of Directors.
Tjuntjuntjara Community is located 660kms northeast of Kalgoorlie and is one of the most remote desert communities in Australia, at the base of the Great Victoria Desert.
Reporting to the Board, the Chief Executive Officer will lead and manage the organisation to ensure the PTAC Review and strategic plan for PTAC and Tjuntjuntjara is implemented effectively.
The role of the CEO also includes managing grants for funded services, increasing economic development opportunities for Anangu (such as. training, employment and enterprises), reducing welfare dependency and improving the sustainability of community programs, essential services and infrastructure. The CEO provides the leadership needed for the organisation to achieve its strategic goals and represent the community’s development aspirations to key external stakeholders with professionalism and integrity, in a culturally competent way.
The Chief Executive Officer will be accountable to the Board for the success of the organisation and will oversee the development and delivery of all programs, organisational governance, and financial and people resources.
Additionally, the Chief Executive Officer will develop and maintain key stakeholder networks, professional partnerships, and collaborative relationships to support the success of the organisation.
The ideal candidate will have achieved success at a similar executive level in an Aboriginal Corporation, not-for-profit or government organisation and will have a collaborative and solutions-focused leadership style.
Additionally, they will be an influential leader with high levels of emotional intelligence, experienced in driving success, change and growth, possess strong financial management skills, and have demonstrated experience managing a wide range of people across teams and functions.
Importantly, we are seeking someone with demonstrated professional leadership and experience in creating positive social outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples, the ability to communicate sensitively and proactively with community members, and someone who can provide Aboriginal cultural leadership. Therefore, the ideal applicant will possess experience in working with community development principals and demonstrated cultural competency.
On offer is a competitive remuneration package negotiated with the successful applicant, and you will have the ability to salary package up to $15,899p.a plus $2,650 for meals and entertainment. In addition, a range of benefits such as fully subsidised accommodation in community including full utilities of power, gas and internet will be provided.
