Community College Gippsland is a not for profit organisation, providing education and training to the community that transforms lives and develops careers.

The role is located within the Finance department at Community College Gippsland and will work with the Finance team. The role plays a vital role in supporting the overall finance process as well as working closely with all departments within the organisation to achieve desired outcomes. This role will have an emphasis on doing all financial processing duties for Community College Gippsland and providing backup support when required.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Oversee finance functions, including payroll, accounts payable, and accounts receivable
  • Assist the Business Services Manager in the preparation of the monthly finance reports for the Board
  • Coordinate annual audit liaising with the external auditor
  • Preparation of year-end accounts.
  • Assist with preparation of annual budgets
  • Prepare financial reconciliations
  • Development of department financial reports
  • Reporting to agencies such as the Department of Education, Block Grant Authority, ACNC and ATO
  • Prepare and lodge annual FBT
  • Preparation and submission of Business Activity Statements
  • Prepare and maintain accurate monthly general ledger reconciliations
  • Maintain and reconcile fixed asset register, capital work in progress and depreciation
  • Monitor cash flow and financial investments
  • Oversee Accounts Receivable function, including the issuing of invoices and statements, and processing of payments
  • Monitor debtor ageing and prepare related reports
  • Oversee credit card controls and reconciliation processes.

KEY SELECTION CRITERIA

  • Strong interpersonal skills and an ability to successfully communicate and liaise with people at all levels, both internal and external
  • Excellent conceptual, analytical, and problem-solving skills with the ability to develop creative solutions to complex problems and business requirements
  • Detailed knowledge of the principles of accounting and accounting systems
  • A demonstrated ability to implement systems and processes
  • Experience in preparation of budgets, forecasting and reporting processes
  • Demonstrable skills with a strong attention to detail and concern for accuracy
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality and respond to sensitive issues and information

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE

Required

  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting
  • A high level of competency in Excel

Preferred

  • Membership of an Australian accounting professional body such as CPA
  • Experience working in a school or VET setting
  • Experience in Sage Intacct/ERP systems

OTHER REQUIREMENTS

  • Clear Police check
  • Clear Working with Children check
  • Current motor vehicle driver’s license
