City of Melbourne recognises the value of the diversity and strength of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures to the heritage of all Australians and encourages Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people to apply. You will be supported in your application via our Aboriginal Employment Team.
Reporting through to the Team Leader Urban Forest and Ecology, the Arborist will work to protect and enhance the growth, development and diversification of the city’s urban forest to meet Council goals. A core focus of the role is to implement Council’s Tree Retention and Removal Policy in order to ensure policy compliance and management of the tree removal process. The Arborist is expected to provide expert advice on a range of tree matters on behalf of Council.
Your resilience, energy and ability to juggle competing priorities will be a key part of this role, and see you collaborating with many areas and at all levels across Council. You will build strong connections and partner with stakeholders within and outside of the organisation to achieve the best urban forest outcomes in a complex capital city environment.
You will work closely with the wider Urban Forest and Ecology team and support a wide array of projects, but can also demonstrate confidence in working autonomously and leading consultative processes and conversations. Familiarity with using asset management programs and spatial mapping software will be beneficial, and you will be well-versed in data management, record keeping and adhering to process.
As you excel in this role, you will have the opportunity to help steer City of Melbourne’s strategy and be innovative in shaping our municipality that people love to live, work and play in.
