$69,323.08 - $109,914.41 (pro rata) + Super (Salary level dependant on qualification, teacher level and years of service)

Yarra City Council currently has an exciting opportunity for a dedicated and passionate degree qualified Early Childhood Teacher to join our Children’s Services team on a Permanent Part Time basis. Starting Term 1 2022, the successful applicant will commence their journey with Yarra at our Sessional Kindergarten in Richmond.

Rated EXCEEDING the National Quality Standards, Richmond Kindergarten is a long standing service that has operated in the community for over 70 years, with a strong focus on family engagement and community connections.

We are investing in service accessibility at Richmond Kindergarten in response to the rollout of the Victorian Government’s Funded 3 Year Old Kindergarten initiative. The physical environment is currently undergoing significant renovations and we are excited about the opportunities this will bring the community.

The successful applicant will become an integral member of our sessional Kindergarten team, teaching Group 2, Thursday and Fridays during term time, providing the highest standard of education and care to our children and families.

Settling into our new learning environments is a priority for 2022, so we’re looking for a Teacher who is passionate about making this transition to a new space and has the ability to weave it into the educational program.

With our EEEA conditions, you will have ample non-contact time each week to plan and prepare your high quality curriculum and program and you will have the benefit of working directly with our experienced Kindergarten & Leadership team who will guide and support you in your delivery of the service and your curriculum.

Being successfully appointed as an Early Childhood Teacher in this position with Yarra means that you will be able to enjoy the generous employment conditions of the EEEA 2020 and Yarra City Council Enterprise Agreement 2017-2021 including but not limited to;

To be successfully appointed to this role you will be an experienced, degree qualified Early Childhood Teacher who would describe themselves as a team player. You will be confident in managing Kindergarten inclusion support funding applications and second year funding applications.

You will have a good understanding of managing School Readiness Funding.

You will have experience in working collaboratively with allied health providers and managing PSG meetings for families/children who need this.

Because of our strong focus on building community connections, the successful applicant will understand the importance of developing good relationships with key community stakeholders including families, local groups and organisations, as well as local schools. You will have experience working with a diverse team of early childhood professionals and have an effective and respectful communication style.

Our EXCEEDING educational programs use children’s emerging interests and ideas alongside educator initiated learning as a springboard for our intentional teaching opportunities.

At Richmond Kindergarten we use progressive routines throughout the day and implement an indoor/outdoor program which responds to the needs of individual children.

As an experienced teacher you will have an understanding through a contemporary early childhood lens as to why these practices are so important. You will have a strong understanding of the approved early learning frameworks with demonstrated ability to embed the learning outcomes within your practices.  

You will also have solid pedagogical capacity regarding embedding cultural diversity into all learning experiences.  Yarra notes First Nations Peoples as being the custodians of all lands and waterways and that Indigenous Culture be a part of all learning experiences

Yarra is a child safe organisation and as such you will understand the important role that educators play in protecting and advocating for children’s wellbeing.

Required:

  • Bachelor of Education (Early Years), (or equivalent),
  • Up to date First Aid, CPR, EpiPen and asthma management qualifications,
  • Valid Early Childhood Teacher VIT Registration and ability to renew,
  • Team focussed approach,
  • Demonstrated ability to facilitate responsive routines and programs guided by the approved learning frameworks,
  • Current mandatory reporting training, and
  • You must have the right to live and work in this location to apply for this job.

Desired:

  • At least 3 years’ experience working as a degree qualified teacher in a funded Kindergarten Program,
  • An understanding of the importance of Indigenous perspectives education,
  • Experience with Xplor or other online learning platform
  • Experience using the Kindergarten Information Management system
  • Ability to demonstrate a competent level of English, both written and spoken.
