Yarra City Council currently has some exciting opportunities for dedicated and passionate Early Childhood Educators for vacancies currently located at Yarraberg Children Centre, located in Richmond. Yarraberg is a long day care service providing an integrating kindergarten program and casual care.

Yarraberg is a family and community focused centre committed to achieving the best outcomes in children’s learning and development. Our centre is focused on bringing natural elements into both the indoor and outdoor learning spaces. This helps children to freely move into different environments so they can maximise their learning experiences and social engagements. Yarraberg has a warm, homely, lived in ‘feel’ creating a comfortable and familiar atmosphere for everyone.

Our programs and the service that we provide, centre around Yarra City Council’s 0-25 strategy plan. Our programs provide children with rich and well-versed opportunities to engage in independent or collaborative learning.

We have a focus on teaching children about Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander perspectives, environmentally sustainable practices and our impact on our world and supporting children’s overall wellbeing. As part of this, we engage with our local community on our regular outings and excursions.

Our long Day Care program at Yarraberg operates for 10.75 hours per day Monday to Friday, 50 weeks of the year.

Our educators work on a weekly rotating roster with shifts between 7AM – 6PM.

We provide non-contact planning for our educators with support and mentoring from our Educational Leader. Yarra is committed to supporting ongoing professional learning and development providing two professional development days annually for all educators.

We offer opportunities to collaborate with other Yarra managed children’s services and opportunities to participate in special project groups.

To be successfully appointed to this role, we are looking for:

  • An experienced and knowledgeable educator in providing education and care for children from 0 – 5 years.
  • Flexibility and is responsive and provides active engagement with children.
  • A family and community centred approach and experience working with people from various backgrounds. 
  • Effective skills in building and maintaining partnerships with families and the community.
  • The ability to work effectively and professionally with other educators.
  • The capability to mentor and guide co-educators
  • Someone who takes pride in their work with high attention to detail and good time management skills.
  • A good understanding and implementation of the approved early years learning frameworks and a willingness to learn and engage in other early years learning and development theories and practices.
  • Experience and knowledge in implementing Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander perspectives and/or environmental sustainability.
  • Familiarity with an online platform for programming or willingness to learn.

Yarra is a child safe organisation, and as such, you will understand the important role that educators play in protecting and advocating for children’s wellbeing.

Required:

  • An approved Cert III or Diploma in Early Childhood Education and Care,
  • Up to date First Aid, CPR, EpiPen and asthma management qualifications,
  • Valid Working with Children Check,
  • Current mandatory reporting training,
  • Team focussed approach,
  • Demonstrated ability to facilitate responsive routines and programs guided by the approved learning frameworks, and
  • You must have the right to live and work in this location to apply for this job.

Desired:

  • Previous experience working as a qualified educator in an ECEC setting,
  • Preferred experience and a passion to work with under 3-year-olds,
  • Ability to demonstrate a competent level of English, both written and spoken.
