The Manager Social Policy is responsible for leading a small team of social policy professionals to research, evaluate and develop social policies, plans and strategies and support decision making by providing high-quality social policy advice to the Social City unit, City Life Division and wider organisation in line with emerging trends and changes to legislation.

The Social Policy team sits within the City’s Social City unit. The unit delivers a wide range of vital social programs, activities, events and services to our City’s diverse communities.

We work together to build resilient and thriving communities by providing welcoming, safe, and inclusive programs, services and spaces where all people can connect, learn and find resources and support on Gadigal Land. About the job

This role will ensure that professional, well-considered and timely social policy advice is provided to internal and external stakeholders in line with community needs.

What you will do:

  • manage the effective and efficient operation of the Social Policy team to ensure professional, well-considered and timely social policy advice is provided to internal and external stakeholders
  • develop linkages and partnerships with internal and external stakeholders to ensure effective two-way information sharing
  • monitor emerging social issues, research and changes in relevant policy landscapes and where required lead targeted research and analysis to determine local community needs, priorities for the City and the development and implementation of evidence-based social policies, strategies and action plans
  • develop evaluation and analysis tools to support the review of social policies, projects and programs
  • provide advice and information and prepare briefs, reports, submissions and discussion papers on social policy issues as required.

About you

To be successful in this role you will:

  • hold tertiary qualifications at degree level in a relevant discipline
  • demonstrate experience in development and implementation of policies and programs to meet strategic objectives and meet compliance obligations in the field of human services and community development
  • have experience in leading and managing staff in a high volume and complex environment and proven ability to balance competing priorities in order to meet deadlines
  • demonstrate an ability to research, analyse and provide clear written and verbal advice and briefings on social policy issues, including preparation of written briefings, submissions and reports
  • demonstrate your ability to design and undertake community engagement and consultation and interact with a broad range of internal and external stakeholders
  • Have knowledge of the Australian Access Standards.
