Individual Giving Manager

Centenary Institute

Who we are

The Centenary Institute of Cancer Medicine and Cell Biology (Centenary) is a world-leading medical research institute focused on discovery and defining biological processes to mitigate human disease. Based at Royal Prince Alfred Hospital, Centenary researchers tackle humanity’s most pressing health challenges, and work closely with clinicians locally. Centenary addresses the most pressing health concerns in the areas of cardiovascular disease, rare diseases and gene therapy, inflammation, biomedical AI, healthy ageing, infections and immunity, and cancer.

The role

Philanthropy is a strategic priority for Centenary, with the Development and Philanthropy department contributing to the Institute’s financial sustainability and growth. We secure philanthropic support from individuals, trusts and foundations, corporate entities, and via gifts in wills to help researchers define biological processes to mitigate human disease.

The Individual Giving Manager role is key to developing and maintaining a growing pool of committed donors that can support Centenary’s core work in line with our philanthropic strategy.

You will work closely with colleagues, agencies and researchers to increase supporter numbers and grow their ongoing financial contributions for the Institute by generating new and continuing philanthropic income across annual appeals, regular giving, and community fundraising segments.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Designing and implementing direct marketing campaigns to grow our supporter base and revenue.
  • Develop plans for Centenary’s annual fundraising appeals, enliven lapsed donors, acquire new supporters, retain existing supporters, and increase the average donation level across the individual giving supporter segment.
  • Coordinate a straightforward Community Fundraising program supporting third parties to undertake fundraising activities on behalf of Centenary.
  • Positively manage relationships with stakeholders to ensure the program’s success.
  • Forecasting individual giving program budget targets, monitoring income and expenditure across the program’s portfolio.

About You:

  • have a proven background in managing organisations’ annual appeals.
  • accustomed to running fundraising programs in-house.
  • able to manage competing demands.
  • have exceptional communication and relationship management skills.
  • have a fire in your belly to drive fundraising campaigns that increase popular and financial support for broad-reaching medical research.

Success in this role will mean an increase in untied philanthropic revenue for Centenary, and the development of a recognisable pipeline of regular givers, underscoring Centenary’s ability to generate sustainable and reliable income. You will help accelerate Centenary’s research capabilities, enabling researchers to focus on what they do best - discovery and defining biological processes to mitigate human diseases.

Centenary offers employees the option of salary packaging, where you can potentially apply pre-tax income towards a range of benefits (eg. Personal expenses (mortgage or rent), Vehicle leasing, Entertainment/meal cards, plus more), effectively increasing your take-home pay while reducing your tax.
