About the Position

The Family Dispute Resolution program aims to assist separating parents and families to reach agreement on parenting arrangements which are in the best interests of children and all members of the family. As a part of this the Property Dispute Resolution assists separating couples to reach an agreement in relation to their assets, including debt. These innovative programs provide support to separating families to resolve disputes as an alternative to court. This program is aligned across the Ballarat Diocese and provides regular outreach to Horsham, Mildura and Warrnambool. 

The Practitioner, Family & Property Dispute Resolution’s role is to provide high quality Family and Property Dispute Resolution, including intake, assessment, support, referral advice and mediation to clients of the Ballarat Family Relationship Centre within the framework of CatholicCare Victoria’s mission and vision.

Specifically, the position is responsible for:

  • Provide information, advice and referral sessions to individuals, couples and family members seeking assistance with relationship and separation issues.
  • Assist in the resolution of these issues in the best interest of the child/children and all members of the family.
  • Demonstrate understanding and sensitivity towards the complex needs of parents and children in a separation context, and trauma-based relationship dysfunction.
  • Delivery of property dispute resolution support services.
  • Provide family dispute resolution services.

To be considered for this position, you will require:

  • A qualification in Social Work, Welfare, Family Law or other relevant tertiary studies.
  • Current registration as a Family Dispute Resolution Practitioner under the Family Law Act.
  • Relevant training and experience to conduct Property Dispute Resolution or the willingness to complete this training.
  • Knowledge of and experience working within the Family Law Act, Child Support Act and other relevant legislation.
