Family Counsellor - Parenting Orders Program

We are currently seeking a part time (3 days/wk) Family Counsellor to join our Parenting Orders Program team based in Epping on a Maximum term contract until 29 February 2020.

CatholicCare provides individual support, counselling and group education programs for separated families who have experienced high parental conflict over an extended period of time. Our Parenting Orders Program (POP) helps parents to manage disputes and increase cooperation and communication. The program is child-focused and gives children the opportunity to have a voice.

Reporting to the Team Leader, Epping the position will be involved in but not limited to:

  • Providing counselling to separated parents and their children
  • Running information sessions and education groups for parents and their children
  • Acting as a consultant in Child Inclusive Family Dispute Resolution practice
  • Developing and maintaining a broad understanding of the Family Law Act (1975), amended 2006, and operating at all times with a cognisance of the provisions of the Act
  • Facilitating referrals to appropriate services and organisations

The successful applicants will possess:

  • A degree in Psychology, Counselling or Social Work
  • Post graduate studies in couple therapy or family therapy highly regarded.
  • Eligibility for A.P.S or A.A.S.W membership
  • A proven track record in relationship and family counselling
  • Excellent communication, decision making, problem solving, advocacy and negotiation skills
  • Ability to work effectively in, and contribute to a positive and productive team environment.
  • Experience using the MS Office Suite.
