About CareerSeekers

CareerSeekers is a non-profit social enterprise that works with leading employers to create paid professional internship opportunities for refugees and people seeking asylum. We help unleash the talent of refugees in Corporate Australia while getting employers to realise meaningful diversity aspirations. We work with both mid-career professionals eager to reignite their career in Australia and university students seeking a pathway to graduate employment.

We are a professional organisation that achieves outstanding results both for participants and employers. We have an enviable rate of success with nearly 90% of participants in our programs securing ongoing professional employment, working with around 80 of Australia’s most well known employers.

About the Role

The Careers Advisor is responsible for supporting participants in the program transition to professional employment. The focus of the role is to support young people in our university student stream in their search for graduate employment, however you will also be exposed to participants in the mid-career program stream.

This is a varied role and will suit someone with a good understanding of employability and career development; a passion to achieve great outcomes for our participants; employability training and coaching skills which can be deployed in relation to participants as well as to build the careers knowledge of the CareerSeekers team; and a flexible mindset and can-do attitude, prepared to roll their sleeves up and get involved in the broader work of CareerSeekers.

Key elements of the role include:

  • Supporting participants to achieve positive graduate employment outcomes
  • Developing, coordinating and delivering workshops to build the skills and knowledge of participants in elements of the job search process – including graduate assessment activities
  • Providing individual careers support to participants, in particular focusing on CV preparation and interview skills
  • Equipping Advisors at CareerSeekers with deeper knowledge and skills around employability and careers
  • Getting involved with other projects or tasks that contribute to the success of CareerSeekers, on an as-needs basis. This might involve, for example, managing the internship journey of a small cohort of participants

Skills and attributes required

  • Results oriented, pragmatic approach
  • A sound understanding of career development particularly as it relates to graduate recruitment
  • Expertise in graduate recruitment and the tools required to navigate the recruitment phase, including interview skills and resume preparation
  • Training and facilitation skills, both face-to-face and online
  • Excellent communication, collaboration and influencing skills. A large part of the success of your approach will be delivered through other team members
