About the role

We have a rare (and exciting) opportunity for a Community Engagement Officer – Kindergarten (CALD) project, to join our Community and Family Services business unit. You will be joining a highly dedicated and passionate team dedicated to making a difference in our community.

You will play an instrumental role in supporting children from Cultural and Linguistic Diverse (CALD) communities to participate in kindergarten programs as well as supporting children reaching school age to make a positive transition to school.

Reporting to the Team Leader, Family Support your role will include but not limited to:

  • Support increased kindergarten enrolments for three- and four-year-old CALD children (including support with enrolment) through promotion of Free Kinder initiative and Early Start Kindergarten for refugee and asylum seeker children.
  • Support successful transition of children starting school (including support with enrolment).

About you

You will be an agile team player, who is accustomed to dealing with competing priorities. You will have strong advocacy skills and the ability to maintain and build relationships with local, regional refugees, asylum seekers, cultural and linguistic diverse community groups, organisations and service providers in supporting inclusion into kindergarten and transition to school. You will also require the following:

  • A bachelor qualification in Social Science, Early Childhood Education, Community Development, Public Social Policy or similar with demonstrated, relevant experience
  • Well-developed skills and experience in CALD community consultation and engagement.
  • Experience in developing policy, conducting research and social planning, including a genuine commitment to ethical management and inclusivity in decision making, principles of social justice and equitable access
