This role is responsible for professional and community communication of the National Bowel Cancer Screening Program in Western Australia and bowel cancer more generally. The project will work closely with other Cancer Council projects, including the General Practice Education Project as well as. key stakeholders and the Department of Health (WA), to deliver the outputs specified in this contract.

Your main responsibilities will be:

  • Coordinating the Department of Health WA funded Cancer Council WA Bowel Cancer Screening Education Project; developing and overseeing the implementation of strategic and operational plans for Project
  • Identifying, in collaboration with the Cancer Council’s General Practice Education project, opportunities and appropriate mechanisms to deliver professional education on bowel cancer screening
  • Delivering public education sessions within the local community
  • Developing and reviewing a program of public information events and activities targeting the appropriate age and geographically-based groups with particular consideration given to priority populations e.g. regional, Aboriginal and CaLD communities
  • Coordinate, and establish where necessary, partnerships and networks with relevant consumer groups
  • Representing Cancer Council WA at appropriate meetings, seminars, and other events, including Cancer Council Australia National Committees

Who are you?

To be successful in this role you will have the following key attributes:

  • Tertiary qualification in health or social sciences
  • Demonstrated experience working with health professionals and the public
  • Demonstrated project management experience including budgeting, planning, development, implementation and evaluation
  • Knowledge of the cancer control issues related to bowel cancer
  • Knowledge of the issues related to population screening for cancer
  • Demonstrated high level written and verbal communication skills; including report writing, writing for the public and public speaking
  • Demonstrated understanding of and commitment to the values of Cancer Council WA
  • Positive approach to the workplace

This position is full time and fixed term until 28 February 2022. Requests for part time may be considered. Please note this role may require some ad-hoc out of hours work.
