About the role
Our Sustainability Team is expanding and we are looking for a motivated team player to join our passionate and energetic team to deliver environmental projects and programs.
On a daily basis you will deliver projects identified in Council’s Operation plan, Environmental Strategy, Urban Tree Canopy Strategy and Biodiversity Strategy.
Some of the main priorities of the role include:
- To maximise the retention and gain of native vegetation and enhancement of biodiversity and influence natural resource management issues at a strategic and operational level.
- To develop, manage, and evaluate actions in Council’s Biodiversity framework including undertaking projects, community programs, species mapping, surveys, and data analysis, and contribute to Urban tree Canopy Strategy.
- To develop and implement environmental policies, strategies and plans and collaborate with key departments to embed resilience and environmental sustainability principles into future council projects.
- To develop and deliver projects and programs which support community resilience and corporate sustainability to increase biodiversity and improve natural resource management.
About the person
You will come to us with:
- tertiary degree and/or equivalent in environmental management, conservation and land management or related discipline and/or proven experience (greater than 5 years).
- knowledge of current urban ecology management challenges and opportunities, eg. biodiversity and threatened species management and climate resilience.
- excellent communication skills including the confidence to deal with the community and other departments within the organisation.
- demonstrated experience applying for grants for sustainability or environmental projects and delivery of these as related to reporting requirements.
- the ability to work both autonomously and in a team environment with a high degree of computer literacy.
- demonstrated experience in project management and the ability to undertake several successful projects simultaneously.
- highly developed organisational skills and exceptional time management.
- ability to analyse data, manage databases and prepare reports for environmental management using a variety of computer programs.
You will be motivated, passionate and willing to learn new skills.
This position will involve community meetings outside of normal business hours, which requires some night and weekend work.
