About the role

Social Workers at Calvary Public Hospital are employed under generalist positions and are supported to develop expertise with a robust program of professional development, group and individual supervision and rotations to areas of interest of the hospital.

Senior Social Workers are given the opportunity to rotate once or twice a year across the hospital according to skills and interests.

Areas of social work service include:

  • Critical Care (ICU, CCU and stroke)
  • Maternity and Special Care Nursery
  • Rapid response areas including ED, SSU, MAPU and intake
  • Chronic and Complex Care (Medical, Hospital in the Home and Surgical)
  • Mental Health (adult inpatient and older persons inpatient units)

In this role you will apply your highly developed knowledge, skills, professional judgement and initiative in the delivery of Social Work services in a busy clinical setting under limited supervision. You will play a key role in the support and development of colleagues including junior Social Workers, students and Aboriginal Liaison Officers as well as members of the multidisciplinary team. The Department currently comprises of a Social Work Team Leader, 8 Senior Social Workers, 3 Senior Psychologists, 4 Junior Social Workers and 2 Aboriginal Liaison Officers under the management of the Director of Social Work and Psychology with some line management of junior staff though the Team Leader. All senior Social Workers are considered key leaders in the Department and the organisation and have access to monthly external supervision paid for by the Department, peer supervision and education through the monthly Seniors Meetings and regular internal and external professional development opportunities.
