The Cagliero Project gives Australians and New Zealanders an opportunity to devote six to twelve months in volunteer service to youth in overseas Salesian communities. The Salesians are known for their work with vulnerable and disadvantaged youth. Therefore our volunteers are placed in projects such as schools, youth centres and orphanages.
We aim to utilise the skills and talents of our volunteers in order to provide the best possible contribution to the host community. Our aim is not to ‘help’ but to walk in solidarity with young people and for volunteer and host to have a mutual learning experience. We are also present in host communities to be role models, people that young people can aspire to be. We have placements in Samoa, East Timor, Cambodia, the Solomon Islands and Thailand.
We are currently seeking volunteers for our schools in Samoa.
Don Bosco Technical School in Apia is currently looking for trade and English teachers. The school caters for students who have not previously experienced educational success, providing the opportunity for them to learn a trade through ‘hands-on’ experience. Divine Mercy primary school is located in the village of Malololelei and is currently looking for English teachers to teach at a primary school level. Don Bosco High School in Salelologa is seeking volunteers to teach English, Science and Computer. There is also a technical centre at the school that is seeking volunteers to assist with the teaching of different trades.
