ABOUT THE ROLE

This role is about developing ideas to make positive change and ensuring that the right people engage with these ideas.

The Policy and Engagement Adviser role involves:

  • Developing and testing policy ideas in partnership with CPRC’s community of experts.
  • Preparing advice and submissions to governments, departments and regulators that use CPRC’s research and insights from our community.
  • Conducting research into consumer issues relevant to upcoming policy discussions.
  • Identifying and engaging relevant stakeholders about CPRC’s research and policy work. You will work closely with the CEO and Deputy CEO to engage decision makers and promote CPRC’s ideas.
  • Preparing briefing notes, presentations, speeches and other materials to translate CPRC’s ideas for non-expert audiences.
  • Working within a small, dedicated team to achieve CPRC’s strategy.

ABOUT YOU

You’re a collaborator at heart and love solving problems by working and connecting with others. You’re able to bring different groups of people together to explore ideas and get excited about practical solutions that will make Australia fairer.

You have:

  • Knowledge of policy and government processes. You may have some experience engaging in formal policy processes, like inquiries or consultations, or you may have a good understanding of how these processes work.
  • Strong communications skills. You write and speak in ways that engage and convince others. You will either have experience discussing issues in public forums and media or an interest in developing this skill with training and support at CPRC.
  • An interest in creative solutions. You are able to connect ideas between policy discussions. You are interested in and able to work across a variety of topics, rather than be a specialist in one specific issue.
  • A collaborative style. You enjoy bringing people together to solve problems.
  • A proactive and self-directed style. You’ll be comfortable working in a small team and interested in continuing our supportive and collaborative culture.
  • Interest in CPRC’s mission. You want to work at a not-for-profit think tank that develops ideas to make markets fairer for consumers.

Not essential, but an advantage:

  • Knowledge of the Australian Consumer Law or an interest in learning about this field.
  • Experience convening, facilitating or organising events for policy stakeholders.
  • Experience engaging with the Victorian Government, Departments or Regulators.
  • Experience producing research reports for a public policy audience.

WHAT YOU GET IN RETURN

You’ll have the opportunity to lead policy and research projects that will aim to make a real difference for Australians with a seat at the table with policy decision-makers. You will be supported by an organisation that fosters your professional development, offers you a flexible and creative workplace and values you and your needs as an individual.

A position description is attached.
