About the role

We have an exciting opportunity for a skilled Data Engineer to join our IT Services support team to primarily support the Data Team and other shared Technology initiatives.

Required skills

  • 3+ years' experience working in complex environments.
  • Relevant tertiary degree and/or post graduate qualifications in Data Engineering, Computer Science, or a related discipline and/or experience working with large volume databases.
  • Understanding and knowledge of business intelligence, data warehousing and data lake concepts.
  • Experience in developing data ingestion, data processing and analytical pipelines for relational databases and/or data warehouse solutions.
  • Modern cloud data experience in Microsoft SQL Server BI Stack, ELT/ETL development processes.
  • Experience with Azure Data Factory, GIT, SQL.
  • Outstanding levels of customer service.
  • Strong communication skills with experience in presenting and translating business needs into technical solutions and producing informative technical and nontechnical documentation as well as the ability to communicate, support and train non-IT staff.
  • Experience conducting process mapping exercises and business process optimisation.
  • Able to collaboration with Technology teams, Data Analysts and BI Developers to model, curate and prepare data for analytics and insights.
  • Highly independent, with the ability to work constructively with teams and senior management.
  • Demonstrated experience in documenting System Architecture.

Desirable skills

  • Microsoft Azure familiarity include Synapse, Data Factory or Google Cloud and Big Query
  • Development experience with Python
  • Hands on engineering of solutions and data pipelines utilising CI/CD and automation
  • Microsoft Power BI, Looker Studio, Tableau data visualisation skills
  • Salesforce Sales Cloud experience
  • Experience with SSIS, SSRS, SSAS
  • Knowledge of FIA Code of Conduct/Standards of Fundraising
  • Agile project experience and knowledge of Jira and Confluence will be highly regarded.
  • Experience with business analysis
  • Experience with change management and liaising with business change management practices
  • Relevant tertiary qualifications in Information Technology / computing
  • Understanding of data and/or CRM transformation
  • Previous experience in the Not-for-Profit fundraising space
  • Previous experience with ThankQ

Responsibilities include:

  • Work with the Manager, Data and Architecture to setup the data architecture and the Data Lake.
  • Assemble large, complex data sets that meet functional / non-functional business requirements.
  • Undertake development activities across the full end-to end development cycle, from initial analysis to design, development, testing, implementation of data processing (ETL) packages, documentation, and post-delivery maintenance and support using agreed practices consistent with maturing data quality assurance.
  • Support planning and building the platform required for optimal extraction, transformation, and loading of data from a wide variety of data sources using SQL/.Net and Azure/SaaS 'big data' technologies.
  • Work with internal stakeholders to resolve data-related technical issues and support their data infrastructure needs.
  • Create and facilitate data tools for analytics and BI developers. Assist them in building and optimising our data lake.
  • Support in the development of reporting, dashboards and analytics using systems and tools as required.
  • Lead the data engineering function and support team members to build accurate dashboards and reports.
  • Assist in the gathering of requirements from business stakeholders, internal and external clients.
  • Document and contribute to the design of solutions that align with the overall data architecture for the business.
  • Create test scenarios and lead the testing and reconciliation of data/processes for signoff by stakeholders.
  • Become a subject matter expert on the data domain.
  • Deliver solutions that ensure projects are delivered on-time, on-budget and to CPA quality standards.
