Reporting to the Senior Coordinator Children and Youth Support, this is an opportunity to improve the wellbeing of children, young people and families in Boroondara through the development and delivery of a range of capacity building initiatives.

You will be responsible for overseeing the iconic Kew Traffic School, including the road safety education program for children in early years services and primary schools. This position is a maternity leave backfill.

Duties

  • Oversee the Kew Traffic School, ensuring a high-quality road safety education program and community asset is available to the community.
  • Engage with early childhood centres and schools to identity and act on priority issues and opportunities supporting children, young people and their families.
  • Plan and deliver parent information sessions to empower parents and caregivers to support the needs of children and families.
  • Plan and deliver the Boroondara Early Years Conference supporting early childhood educators, centres and families.

Skills and Experience

  • Knowledge of government policies, regulations and legislation relevant to the support and development of children, families and young people (Essential).
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience in establishing and maintaining partnerships with educational facilities, Committees of Management, service staff and agencies (Essential).
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience in community capacity building (Essential).
  • Demonstrated experience in managing, developing and supporting staff (Essential).
  • Strong communication skills, including writing of reports and submissions for a range of audiences and oral communication skills (Desirable).
  • Ability to undertake strategic planning, project and program management, including evaluation (Desirable). 

Qualifications & Employment Requirements

  • Tertiary qualification in social sciences, youth work, early childhood, education, community development and/or related field (Essential).
  • Current Australian driver's license (Essential).
  • Satisfactory completion of a National Police Record Check & Working with Children Check (Essential).
