Chief Technology Officer

CHOICE

CHOICE plays a unique role in Australia’s consumer landscape.

In 1960 we sent out our first magazine to 500 members, and today more than 200,000 rely on our website to compare products & services, support our advocacy work and keep abreast of consumer trends and issues.

We invest in growing our capability to serve the evolving needs of consumers so we rely on a wide range of technology to inform and deliver our mission.

About the Opportunity

You will play a key role in shaping how we implement and maintain effective and adaptable technology to support the delivery of our content and the growth of our audience through shrewd technology investment and rigorous operational planning and management.

  • Ensure our technology is robust and flexible enough to respond to emerging opportunities and needs
  • Manage a medium term technology roadmap and ensure it evolves in response to changing needs
  • Ensure that major projects are delivered effectively, with strong stakeholder support
  • Build confidence with the senior leadership and stakeholders by tracking the value and success of technology investments
  • Configure technology resources and processes in the most effective way to meet the immediate and most pressing needs of the organisation
  • Optimise operational and capital expenditure
  • Mitigate operational risks by ensuring issues are identified and mitigated on a regular and ongoing basis

Above all your focus will be to ensure CHOICE has a clear and agreed plan for the key platforms and technology that it requires for future success and that your team and its stakeholders are fully engaged in delivering that plan.

About You

You are a pragmatist at heart and have learnt to work with what you have. You seek to understand before being understood and value rigour and efficiency in the now and insist on putting measures in place to stay on track.

You pride yourself on your soft skills as much as your industry and technical knowledge and have probably developed them on complex transformation (CMS, ERP or CRM) projects where it was the people and not just the methods that delivered success.

  • Prior experience in a senior leadership role
  • A track record of leading the design and delivery of challenging projects
  • An aptitude for mentoring a diverse range of technology staff and empowering them to resolve technical challenges
  • Establishing and maintaining standards in relation to digital development, IT operations and cybersecurity.
  • Strong stakeholder relationship management and collaboration skills

What sets you apart is your ability to engage and influence a broad range of stakeholders to adopt change in meeting pressing operational challenges by identifying initiatives to support the wider organisational strategy and negotiating board and stakeholder support.
