The 24 hour Palliative Care Helpline is responsible for delivering a free, state wide, reliable and easily accessible service for all Queenslanders.  We are pleased to offer this new service in early 2015.

About the role

In this role, you will be responsible for:

  • Providing support, care and compassion to clients faced by the challenge of managing their palliative care decisions, including end of life.
  • Referral pathways to key organisations to assist with practical palliative care needs.
  • Managing and problem solving with each client to ensure all relevant support options are offered and explored
  • Ensuring prompt attention is provided to clients, while managing competing priorities of service level and client satisfaction.
  • Regularly reviewing information, standards of care and research relevant to palliative care.

We are recruiting a casual and part-time Palliative Care Advisor. Both positions are a three year contract. In your application, please advise if you are interested in casual or part-time employment and how many hours you are able to commit to each week.

About you

To be successful, you must have a tertiary qualification in nursing or equivalent experience in palliative care or cancer care. You will have experience in providing psychosocial care to people with chronic or terminal illness including cancer.

You must have excellent written and verbal communication skills.  You will have experience in client centered approach to care and a passion for assisting palliative care clients, caregivers and their families. As you will be working independently you will have a high level of resilience, time management and problem solving skills.
