Cancer Council NSW (CCNSW) is a community funded, community focused not for profit. Our unique combination of local program delivery, community engagement and national influence enables everyone who cares about cancer to make the biggest possible difference.

An internal career move, has created this amazing opportunity! Drive community fundraising activities with the money flowing right back into cancer research, advocacy, prevention and support.

Based in the Charlestown office, you will be responsible for the delivery of CCNSW events and fundraising initiatives such as Do it For Cancer and Relay For Life within the communities of the Newcastle Region.

Reporting to the Community Lead, you will be a networker, relationship builder, and a people person with substance. You will enjoy working to targets and understand that relationships are key - how you adapt and tailor your approach is half the success!

Key responsibilities:

This varied position will need you to drive the success of fundraising initiatives to achieve targets and raise the profile of CCNSW in the community. You will:

  • Plan, develop and coordinate all aspects of community events
  • Identify and realise opportunities for the community to contribute through local fundraising initiatives
  • Partner closely with internal stakeholders to ensure integration of cancer prevention, information and supportive care as part of all fundraising programs and events
  • Raise the profile of CCNSW as the local cancer charity and maintain high levels of brand and service recognition
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with CCNSW staff and volunteers working within the regional and central offices and local communities
  • Effectively motivate, coach and influence committees and volunteers to assist in the delivery of event objectives

Who are you?

Enjoying what you do makes us better at what we do, so we want to hear from experienced relationship managers who have a genuine passion about making a difference in their community and have:

  • Fundraising, marketing, promotions or event management skills/qualifications
  • Ability to negotiate, influence and deliver on financial targets
  • Exceptional communication (both verbal and written)
  • Driven, proactive and innovative approach, with an enjoyment working collaboratively and autonomously
  • Experience in community events and program coordination e,g Planning, development and coordination, will be looked on favourably
  • You will be covering different geographical areas so will need your C Class Driver’s license

This is not your average job, so it’s not average hours! Because of the nature of working with the community, flexibility to work some evenings and some weekends to cover events will be required and flexibility to travel is essential.
