We are looking for a values-based leader to help us to make a difference at Bridge Housing and within the Housing Sector in NSW.

The Role

The Chief Operating Officer (COO) is part of the senior executive team that is responsible for delivering Bridge Housing’s strategic and business objectives through effective leadership, relationship management, planning and management practices that support us to achieve our mission.Operating as the 2IC to the CEO, the COO champions our advocacy strategy, is a key industry voice and respected housing leader.

This role leads the Customers and Communities Team, which provide housing assistance, tenancy management, support and referral services and community building services to our customers. Specifically, this role leads the following functions:

  • Housing Services - is organised into 3 regions, each of which provides the following services:
    • Housing assistance - manages applications, assessments, and allocations of social and affordable housing.
    • Tenancy management - with low staff-to-tenant management ratios and proactive staff who manage the properties on behalf of Bridge Housing as well as individual landlords, local and state governments and private developers.
    • Support and referral services - working with residents and service partners to provide practical support to sustain tenancies and support wellbeing.
    • Income Coordination– bi-annual subsidy review to maximise the collection of rental revenue to support the operations of the business.
  • Customer Care Hub (to be established) for tenancy and property management requests.
  • Sustainable Communities - working with residents to access opportunities in their local area and have a real say in how we deliver our services.
  • HomeGround Real Estate Sydney (our Not-For-Profit Real Estate Agency) - as a registered real estate agency, providing specialised property and tenancy management services for landlords, developers, and investors with a focus on affordable housing.
  • Executive Assistance & Office Management - administrative support to this role and to the broader team as well as Office Management functions for both offices.

Accountabilities

  • Lead the delivery of quality customer services to our tenants and applicants by ensuring service excellence, monitoring customer service delivery, and developing tenant focused services and programs.
  • Lead and drive company culture and performance through effective management and leadership practices that attract and retain high quality staff, manage performance, and develop employee capability and skills required to achieve the Bridge Housing’s business goals.
  • Ensure the Customers and Communities department meets it budgetary and financial KPI’s by managing adherence to budgets, monitoring progress and developing and implementing corrective actions as required.
  • Work with the CEO and Senior Executive to increase the profile and reputation of Bridge Housing by building strategic networks and partnerships; attending industry forums and presenting at conferences; and being the face of Bridge Housing for the media when required.
  • Support the governance and operations of Bridge Housing by contributing to strategic, business and risk planning and implementation.
  • Support Bridge Housing’s growth strategy by identifying opportunities to provide more homes, new programs and better services and contributing to the preparation of funding submissions and tenders.
  • Ensure the Customers and Communities Department meets its corporate governance requirements through timely and accurate reporting to the board and regulatory bodies, maintaining adherence to relevant laws and regulations affecting the sector and ensuring the safety and risk frameworks are implemented and maintained throughout the department.

To be successful in this role you must have…

  • Experience in strategy and operations in the housing sector.
  • Experience in a senior executive role working with boards, government stakeholders and corporate partners.
  • Tertiary qualifications in the Social Sciences, Business Management, or related discipline.
  • Demonstrable ability to advocate and present persuasively to advance Bridge Housing and HomeGround’s mission both verbally and in written communication.
  • Demonstrable ability to think strategically, and influence appropriately, carefully balancing people and task to achieve organisational goals.
  • Experience leading teams and implementing change that has a positive impact on customers.
  • Proven ability to form internal and external relationships.
  • Class 1 Real Estate License holder or willingness to complete qualification.
