The Organisation

Havelock Housing has been operating for over 70 years and now provides safe and secure housing to over 450 people from disadvantaged and vulnerable groups in the Canberra area.

They are the largest provider of Disability Housing in the ACT, operating essential 24 hour care packages to enable independent living and housing choices to people living with disability. Their portfolio of properties includes the heritage listed Havelock House which is now home to 100 people and is of huge cultural importance to the area.

About the Role:

Reporting to the Head of Tenancy and Communities, you will support tenants in seeking and obtaining appropriate housing assistance and following up on any arrears or breaches of contract.

Your main responsibilities:

  • Assist applicants seeking social housing assistance by assessing, processing and offering appropriate housing products or facilitating access to temporary or priority accommodation when required.
  • Provide advice, information and referrals to assist tenants in accessing support services
  • Support the Tenancy team to meet its financial, governance and customer satisfaction levels by ensuring timely and accurate processing of applications and within agreed targets
  • Demonstrate an ongoing commitment to the success and growth of HHA by maintaining effective relationships with support agencies and other key stakeholders
  • Meet agreed KPI levels around tenant debt by staying on top of rent and arrears
  • Support the team with tenancy issues as required and during times of leave.

About You:

  • Intermediate computer literacy skills in Microsoft Office software including Word, Excel and Outlook
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Proven ability to work effectively across a range of stakeholders
  • A team-oriented approach and a willingness to learn and adapt to a changing environment
  • Sensitivity to and understanding of the business’ commitment to its clients who may be socially disadvantaged, be homeless, have a disability or come from a non-English speaking background
  • Practical awareness of current work health and safety requirements in accordance with current ACT legislation and an ability to support staff in behaving safely while working
  • Holder of, or ability to hold an ACT Working With Vulnerable People and to pass an Australian Federal Police Criminal Record Check
  • Current ACT driver’s licence.
