batyr is committed to providing a safe, culturally appropriate, inclusive environment for all people, regardless of ethnicity, faith, disability, sexuality, or gender identity. We believe that everyone’s voice is valid and worthy of being heard, and because of this, we strongly encourage people from all backgrounds to apply, especially those from minority or marginalised communities.
We are a preventative youth mental health charity created and driven by young people for young people. We empower young people with the confidence and skills to overcome tough times and look out for each other. We work to create stigma-free communities that champion young people’s mental health and well-being. Our vision is a world where all young people lead mentally healthy and fulfilling lives.
We are an energetic, fun and dynamic team passionate about creating meaningful change for youth mental health. Excitingly, we are on the hunt to build our team with even more passionate, skilled and driven people to continue to develop our high-performance culture and expand the reach and impact of batyr. If you want a workplace where you can bring your full, weird and wonderful self to the office daily, this is the place.
You’re passionate about sharing your lived experience in your community to create positive change. You hope that sharing your experiences of both challenging times and highlighting hopeful experiences with reaching out for support, it will encourage other young people to reach out for help when they need it.
As with all of our employees, you will have an active interest in tackling the stigma in young people around mental health and are aligned with batyr’s five values: empathy, inclusivity, balance, positivity and boldness.
batyr Storytellers play a central role in batyr's preventative mental health education programs in schools, universities and the workplace. Central to the batyr Storyteller’s role is the ability to relate to audiences of young people through storytelling that is vulnerable, engaging, and conversational. A batyr Storyteller leans into the authenticity of telling a personal story as opposed to delivering a formal presentation. The batyr Storyteller at a program shares their lived experience of mental ill-health, working closely with the Lived Experience team prior to their first program to develop and adapt story content in a way that is timely, authentic, safe, and impactful in alignment with batyr’s program outcomes.
Programs are generally run with an entire school year or university cohort, and the time required for the Storyteller to be in attendance varies from program to program.
All candidates will need to hold a current Working with Children Check and Police Check or be willing to obtain these within one (1) month of starting the role.
A position description is attached.
