About Us:

Basketball Victoria (BV) is the governing body for the sport of Basketball in Victoria. The broad objectives of BV are to provide for the advancement, encouragement, conduct, promotion and administration of Basketball in Victoria.

In addition to supporting our affiliated Basketball associations, BV coordinates a number of participation and player, coach and official’s development programs to encourage the development of socially desirable attitudes and values towards physical fitness and skill acquisition. This includes selection and development of players, teams or sides to represent BV in interstate and state matches; providing individuals with the opportunity to maximise their potential by competing in the highest level of Basketball possible, given their own ability.

BV works to provide greater access for individuals to participate in Basketball in the State of Victoria, by working with local, state and federal stakeholders to drive infrastructure growth. BV is a recognised leader in inclusive practice as evidenced by VicHealth granting exemplar status to advocate for increased access and equity for people with disabilities in all sports settings.

Key responsibilities for the role:

  • Plan, develop, coordinate, evaluate and promote a program targeting at-risk youth across Dandenong, Casey and Wyndham municipalities.
  • Develop schedule of activity including basketball participation and off court personal and life skill development sessions.
  • Pursue effective relationships with key stakeholders in the community, including schools, community agencies and youth services.
  • Research and investigate appropriate activities and learning opportunities to maximise youth participation and engagement.
  • Identify and work closely with partners in the engagement and referral of program participants.
  • Build and maintain effective relationships with relevant stakeholders including but not limited to social support services, youth services, LGA’s, justice department and member basketball associations.
  • Liaise with other service providers within the region including education and employment as well as specialist and general youth services to promote sharing of resources and opportunities for collaboration in the providing of service for young people.
  • Undertake program administration tasks; including assisting with the development of partnership proposals, project plans, budgets and maintaining accurate records and statistical information.
  • Complete regular reports and updates to funding bodies.
  • Work with evaluation partners to identify improvements and develop a model to secure ongoing funding for the program.

About you:

You will have the following experience:

  • Highly developed project management experience implementing diversity, social justice and inclusion practices and processes with links to sport.
  • Appropriate qualifications in Youth, Community Development, Human Services or related fields or demonstrated knowledge and relevant experience in these areas.
  • Ability to establish rapport and creditability with a wide range of stakeholders in a culturally diverse environment.
  • Excellent public speaking, facilitation, organisation and analytical skills.
  • A good understanding of community sport.
  • Knowledge and understanding of current issues affecting young people including risk-taking behaviour.
  • Ability to communicate and engage with at-risk young people.
  • Understanding of youth participation principles and the community development framework.
  • Project planning and management skills to monitor key milestones with clear evaluation practices.
  • Professional report writing skills with the ability to collate and analyse data to demonstrate project delivery items are met.
  • Ability to prepare and monitor budgets related to the project.
  • Highly organised with the ability to be self-motivated, responsive and flexible in an environment with time pressures and multiple priorities.
  • Outstanding interpersonal and communication skills.
  • The ability to work cooperatively and positively within a team environment.

The ideal candidate will possess:

  • Experience in a sport, peak-body or not-for-profit setting.
  • Technical understanding of basketball or the broader sports sector in Australia.
  • First Aid qualifications.

All offers of employment are subject to satisfactory proof of eligibility to work in Australia, reference checks, a police check and a Working With Children Check. All applicants must have a current Victorian Driver’s License.

This role will be based at Wantirna South but will involve working on-site in Dandenong, Casey and Wyndham municipalities. The project delivery may include some nights and weekend work, employees will be reimbursed for travel expenses.
