Ballarat Community Health (BCH) provides a broad range of services to the community of Ballarat, with outreach services delivered in the Central Highlands region and beyond. The Role:

An exciting opportunity exists for an experienced Accredited Facilitator or someone who is willing to undertake the accreditation process to deliver the fee-for-service Drink Drug Drive Behavioural Change programs at BCH. The programs are overseen by VicRoads and are delivered in accordance with VicRoads' policy and resources. The role provides vital support to the Alcohol & Other Drug (AOD) team at BCH, ensuring continuity of care for clients participating in these programs.

About the Programs:

The initial Drink Drive and Drug Drive programs are facilitated over two (2) consecutive weeks and run for three (3) hours each. An intensive 10-hour program will be facilitated for repeat offenders, consisting of three 3-hour sessions over three (3) consecutive weeks and a 1-hour one-to-one counselling session. The program delivery will be flexible, meeting the needs of both Facilitators and participants.

Each program includes screening and assessment for alcohol and other drug dependency and where appropriate, assertive referral to treatment services will be provided.

Qualifications and Experience:

The role requires a flexible, self-motivated person with excellent communication skills able to work autonomously, prioritise tasks, engage with a range of stakeholders and align with BCH values in their work. Applicants should have:

  • Current VicRoads Accreditation to deliver DDBCP
  • At least 2 years' experience working with mandated clients and behavioural change interventions
  • At least Bachelor level qualifications in psychology, social work, health, human services or a related discipline
  • Certificate IV in AOD
  • Completion of Motivational Interviewing Training - post 2012 or demonstrated experience in motivational interviewing at the level that would meet VASE-R requirements
  • Minimum 2 years' experience in therapeutic group work
  • Proven skills in the application of assessment and counselling services to forensic AOD clients
  • Knowledge of harm minimisation, client-centred care and recovery-focused principles
  • Demonstrated ability to work with clients with co-occurring disorders including AOD, Mental Health and Acquired Brain Injury
  • A driver's licence with no more than six demerit points and to have had no licence disqualifications or suspensions within the past 10 years

Special requirements and qualifying period if not accredited:

While BCH will conduct interviews and appoint a candidate to the position, a qualifying period of six (6) months applies during which the candidate must also satisfy the following additional VicRoads requirements:

  • Complete VicRoads Motivational Interviewing training or be assessed as competent via VASE-R assessment
  • Complete Towards Zero e-Learning Safe System
  • Complete VicRoads Drink Driver and Drug Driver Program trainings
  • Facilitate three (3) programs, undertake audit of the third program and submit video evidence of their facilitation to VicRoads for review and approval

Upon satisfactory completion of these requirements, employment for the remainder of the contract will be confirmed.
