ABOUT BUSHkids ORGANISATION
BUSHkids is a non-Government, not-for-profit organisation which works within local communities to support the development of children by increasing community capacity through education, prevention and early intervention programs.
BUSHkids Services
Children’s Allied Health Services are delivered at regional Centres based in Bundaberg, Dalby, Emerald, Mount Isa and Warwick, with satellite sites delivering Children and Parenting Support Services in Inglewood, Stanthorpe, Kingaroy/Nanango and Agnes Water/Miriam Vale.
BUSHkids is the National Disability Insurance Agency (NDIA) Partner in the Community for the delivery of NDIS Early Childhood Early Intervention (ECEI) Services for Bundaberg, Rockhampton and Central Queensland areas servicing Emerald and Gladstone; with the Fraser Coast servicing Hervey Bay, Maryborough, Kingaroy and Cherbourg; and the Sunshine Coast servicing Maroochydore, Caloundra and Gympie areas.
BUSHkids also works in partnership with the Department of Education (DoE) to provide eKindy in rural and remote Queensland to ensure all children receive good quality early years opportunities prior to entering formal education.
Regional activities are coordinated by a team of support staff located in the BUSHkids offices based in Toowong, Brisbane.

SERVICES PROVIDED
Early Intervention and prevention services aimed at improving children’s development and wellbeing and supporting the capacity of those in a parenting role by providing the following services:
- Parenting skills and support.
- School readiness programs.
- Home visiting.
- Supported playgroups.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Community capacity building
- Professional development for early educators including family day care– in areas of social-emotional development, play, parenting, early communication and other skill areas as indicated through community engagement/ needs analysis.
- Seminars for parents – Parenting, early communication, play, school readiness, social-emotional development and other skill areas as indicated according to need including soft entry involvement in community.
Targeted programs
- Home visit support around parenting.
- Supported playgroups as required – with a view to self-directed.
- Social-emotional groups led by our staff for children 0-13, e.g. Fun FRIENDS, PALS etc.
Direct intervention
- Group and individual parenting support.
- Early language intervention groups for parents.
- Linking to and/or provision of relevant intervention services.
Service administration
- Coordinating appointments when required; arranging, cancelling, rescheduling.
- Maintain data/accurate records of client service provision in accordance with medico-legal standards.
Other tasks include:
- Actively participate in general staff meetings.
- Attend training sessions (in-house and external) when required.
- Know and apply BUSHkids policies and procedures; and be familiar with and understand workplace health and safety and apply these in the workplace.
Qualifications / Professional Registrations / Other Requirements
Mandatory Requirements
- Blue Card – Queensland’s Working with Children Check OR Combined NDIS Worker Screening Clearance and Blue Card.
- Proof of COVID-19 vaccination or certificate stating medical contraindication.
- Proof of Hepatitis B Vaccination status.
- Current C Class Queensland Drivers Licence.
Desirable Requirements
- Tertiary Qualifications in Social Work, Occupational Therapy, Speech Pathology, Psychology, Physiotherapy, Dietetics or Teaching.
- Diploma of early childhood.
- Current Registration requirements by specific qualification.
Desirable Qualities
- Experience in working with children experiencing learning, mild to moderate developmental delays and neuro developmental disorders such as ASD, ADHD.
- Experience with planning, implementing and evaluating group programs for young children and their families.
- Experience in the provision of health promotion/community education activities.
- Experience working with families in rural, regional and remote areas.
- Experience working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities.
KEY SELECTION CRITERIA
Professional Practice
- Demonstrated knowledge and experience in early intervention and prevention services for families and young children including parenting.
- Demonstrated knowledge and skills in working with vulnerable families who may experience multiple barriers to accessing services.
Communication/Team Participation
- Demonstrated effective interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills necessary to work effectively in a local community to provide high quality services.
- Demonstrated ability to develop professional networks and work collaboratively with other service providers.
Leadership/Work Unit Management
- Demonstrated commitment to ongoing professional development and ability to share knowledge and skills.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently without close supervision and to appropriately manage time and workload.
