About the role:
The Koorie Liaison Officer (KLO), with limited day-to-day direction from the Executive Manager Student Life, coordinates and leads Koorie Student Support Officers (KSSO) and establishes effective and positive working relationships between BHI and Koorie students, local communities, service providers, and industry and business partners.
Your Skills and Qualifications:
Qualifications
- A relevant, diploma or higher qualification in education, program delivery, business, community, Youth Work, Welfare, Counselling, or equivalent.
- Professional experience working within the Indigenous education or community sector, including collaborating with community networks to identify and address community needs.
- A successful background in a similar role and extensive experience with aboriginal liaison would be advantageous.
Expertise Requirements
- Cultural Understanding and Safety: Demonstrated experience and knowledge of Koorie culture and history, with the ability to proactively contribute to building Indigenous cultural safety and respect within BHI for staff, students and visitors.
- Building Partnerships: Ability to build relationships with Indigenous students, internal and external stakeholders which assist to create positive educational pathways for Indigenous students. Ability and commitment to contribute to the growth and influence of BHI’s consultative and partnership relationships with the Koorie Community and other education organisations serving the needs of Indigenous clients
- Administration and Accountability: Capacity to work well under pressure with the ability to prioritise and meet reporting and project deadlines in the context of good communication skills and sound record keeping. Develop clearly articulated student pathways through providing tailored experiences for students which includes individualised support and study plan options. Ability to work to an action plan and flexibly adapt when appropriate.
