About the Role:
In the Black Dog Institute, the finance team is going through a process of transformation and change to strengthen the organisation through strong financial monitoring, modelling, reporting and budgeting. The Management Accountant will assist the Financial Controller during the transition period to ensure the day to day financial activities in the Discovery and Innovation area of the business are delivered in a timely fashion and to a high level of accuracy. This includes the provision of financial and management accounting.
Key responsibilities:
- Support the Financial Controller (FC) in the preparation and submission of budgets, forecasts, reconciliations and reporting.
- Provide expert and knowledgeable advice of accounting practices, standards and best practice financial management in the day to day running of the BDI accounts and budgets to key team members and stakeholders.
- Preparation of month-end close payments, accruals, journals, reconciliation and review activities.
- Responsible for UNSW fortnightly payroll reconciliation and posting to BDI general ledger.
- Responsible for Non People Costs of UNSW projects processing and reconciliation.
- Reconciliation of UNSW projects to BDI accounting systems.
- Support and direct the Finance Officers in the day to day delivery of Affiliate Accounts Receivable and Accounts Payable transactions and other regular financial and budget processes.
- Assist FC with asset management and asset register of transactions through UNSW.
- Identify opportunities for operational efficiencies and recommend, as well as implement process improvements as required.
- Undertake all other duties as requested by the FC and Head of Finance
Selection Criteria:
Essential:
- Qualified member of professional accounting body e.g. CPA, CIMA
- A minimum of 2 years’ experience in management accounting
- Evidence of ability to effectively manage time, set priorities and organise work in an effective and efficient manner to achieve set objectives within the resources available to agreed timelines
- Highly developed interpersonal, oral and written communication skills, ability to communicate effectively at all levels both within and outside the organisation to effectively translate ideas, concepts and information
- High levels of accuracy in budgeting, forecasting and processing of actuals and accruals
- Advanced computer skills in the use of Microsoft Office products, in particular with Excel.
- Demonstrated capacity to analyse and solve problems and use judgement and conceptual skills to make sound decisions
- Ability to demonstrate values of respect and compassion in workplace behaviour
Desirable:
- Financial Experience within UNSW
- Experience in the Not for Profit sector
