The Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (Ahpra) works in partnership with 15 National Boards to implement the national regulatory scheme for health professionals. The purpose of health practitioner regulation is to protect the public by ensuring that only health practitioners who have the skills, qualifications and knowledge to provide safe care are registered.

This is a full time or part-time (minimum 22.5 hours per week), fixed term (12 months) role based in our Melbourne office working in a hybrid arrangement.

About the Role

The Senior Policy Officer, Pharmacy will work under the guidance of the Executive Officer, Pharmacy and within the Strategy and Policy Directorate to support policy and standards development and project work for the Pharmacy Board of Australia (the Board) in accordance with its work plan.

As the ideal candidate, you will demonstrate the following:

  • Undertake research in order to assist the Executive Officer to provide advice to the Board and its committees on key policy issues to support the regulation of the pharmacy profession.
  • Develop and review standards and/or regulatory codes, guidelines and policy for the Board which meet the objectives and guiding principles of the National Law and good regulatory practice
  • Participate in, and / or co-ordinate internal or external resources which have been allocated to research activities and approved projects
  • Provide support as agreed with the Executive Officer; to ensure meetings are well organised, briefing papers are of a high standard and actions and decisions are recorded and implemented in a timely manner, to meet Ahpra and Board requirements
  • Establish and maintain effective relationships with key stakeholders internally and externally

As the ideal candidate, you will demonstrate the following:

  • A qualification suitable for registration as a pharmacist in Australia; post graduate qualification in pharmacy or health policy would be desirable
  • Currently holding general registration as a pharmacist in Australia with a minimum three years of experience as a pharmacist
  • Demonstrable experience in policy development or working with policy in a regulatory environment
  • Strong stakeholder management skills
  • Sound understanding of corporate regulatory systems and governance
  • Sound understanding of project management methodology
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills
