The Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (Ahpra) works in partnership with 15 National Boards to implement the national regulatory scheme for health professionals. The purpose of health practitioner regulation is to protect the public by ensuring that only health practitioners who have the skills, qualifications and knowledge to provide safe care are registered.
About your role
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a talented lawyer to join our high performing in-house Corporate Legal team to provide pragmatic advice to support Ahpra’s work.
This is a full time, permanent role based in our National Office in Melbourne.
Reporting to the Corporate Counsel, this role supports the Corporate Legal Unit by working collaboratively across all areas including procurement, privacy, delegations, intellectual property and corporate governance.
In this role you will:
- Review and negotiate commercial contracts, including for procurement (IT and non-IT), data sharing, and professional services.
- Assist in the management of Ahpra and the National Boards’ delegations framework.
- Provide advice on privacy issues, including working with internal stakeholders to develop privacy impact assessments.
- Provide legal advice and operate in accordance with legislation, regulations and codes of practice relevant to the National Law and Ahpra’s corporate activities.
- Research legal information using primary and secondary sources.
- Assist with the preparation and drafting of agenda and meeting papers.
As the ideal candidate, you will have:
- Degree in law (LLB/JD);
- Current practising certificate issued by an Australian State or Territory authority and at least 2 years post-admission experience;
- Experience reviewing and drafting commercial contracts;
- Strong interpersonal and written communication skills; and
- Ability to prioritise work and perform well under pressure.
