The Senior Anthropologist will be responsible for the coordination of applied anthropological research and the provision of high level advice on complex anthropological matters associated with special and major development projects within the NLC’s jurisdiction.
Applicants should possess tertiary qualifications in Anthropology or an equivalent discipline, and demonstrable knowledge and understanding of the Aboriginal Land Rights (Northern Territory) Act 1976 and Native Title Act 1993.
Extensive applied anthropological experience in Aboriginal Australia is also a prerequisite of the position. Work in the field of claims research, commercial and community development, the energy and resources sector, impact assessments, and natural and cultural resource management are also considered highly desirable.
Applicants will require demonstrated anthropological knowledge and understanding of systems of Aboriginal land tenure and social organisation, decision making processes and cultural protocols as they relate to the NLC’s legislative frameworks and statutory functions.
You will be expected to possess organisational, administrative and computer skills of a high order as well as, excellent interpersonal and communication skills, previous experience supervising and supporting multi-disciplinary teams together with, the ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines within budget.
Significant travel to remote areas using 4WD vehicles is involved so possession of a ‘C’ class driver’s licence and ability to drive safely is essential, as is a willingness to work in remote locations.
