A primary focus of this new position will be developing a framework to support the National Partnership Agreement on Remote Housing. You will coordinate the NLC’s engagement in relation to housing reforms between remote Aboriginal residents and Northern Territory and Commonwealth Government agencies. 

The Engagement Officer will be responsible for consulting and building the capacity of local organisations and communities to create sustainable healthy housing and related service delivery models based on local decision making processes. Demonstrated cultural competence is essential along with the ability to establish and maintain effective networks in Aboriginal communities and homelands.

The successful applicant will possess high level administration, report and submission writing skills, with the ability to communicate and engage effectively and sensitively with diverse stakeholders in a multi-disciplinary environment. 

You will have extensive experience in participatory planning and/or community development, ideally in an NT context, and a working knowledge of remote housing including property and tenancy management related issues affecting Aboriginal people.

Knowledge of the NLC and the Aboriginal Land Rights (NT) Act 1976 , an understanding of the political, social and economic issues affecting Aboriginal people in the NT, is required.

Significant travel to remote areas using 4WD vehicles is involved so possession of a drivers licence and ability to safely drive 4WD drive vehicles is essential, as is a willingness to fly in a light aircraft.
