Summerland Farm is located on a beautiful macadamia and avocado farm, set high on the hills of the Alstonville plateau, overlooking the Ballina coastline.

About the role

We are seeking an enthusiastic and engaging star to join our team!

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced and motivated individual to join the Summerland Farm team, in the role of Team Leader, Farm.

In this role you will provide effective supervision and support to a small team to carry out day to day operations of our avocado and macadamia farming business (14,000 tree orchard). During lull periods in farm production, you will support other horticulture businesses, and support the workshop to service the Summerland Farm plant and equipment fleet.

The position will be required to be available for some shift work, including some occasional weekends for peak periods (peak harvest season).

This role will suit someone with experience in farming, particularly fruit crops and who may also have some experience with basic vehicle and equipment repairs and maintenance, welding and steel work etc.

  • Demonstrate effective leadership of day-to-day operations of the farm business, and workshop operations
  • Produce strong orchard management and harvest outcomes

  • Plant and equipment downtime for repairs and maintenance are minimised

Essential Criteria

  • Demonstrated commitment to the Aruma Code of Conduct
  • Experience in farming, particularly avocado and macadamia crops
  • Sufficient physical fitness to meet the manual handling and environmental requirements of the position
  • Demonstrated experience in supervising employees and or teams
  • Excellent customer service
  • Effective verbal and written communication
  • Sound organisational skills and ability to prioritise work of a small team
  • A current Australian driver's license
  • NDIS Worker Screening Check clearance
  • A confirmation record of COVID-19 vaccination (doses 1 & 2)

Nice to have:

  • Formal leadership training (such as Cert IV or Diploma of Frontline Management)
  • Trade qualifications/ certifications in mechanics, welding, or metal fabrication, auto mechanic
  • Previous experience working with people with disabilities.
  • Experience in vehicle and equipment repairs and maintenance, as well as welding and steel work
  • MR license
