ABOUT YOU

We’re looking for an enthusiastic and diligent Assistant Electorate Officer for a part-time role for 4 days per week (ideally on the days of Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday). The role will commence on 13 March 2023.

REQUIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Strong interpersonal communication skills and a great phone manner
  • Ability to work well in a dynamic team, taking responsibility for your own individual contributions and collaborating well with others
  • Ability to prioritise tasks, manage your own time and work with minimal supervision
  • High computer literacy and the ability to learn new programs/systems quickly
  • Great written communication skills, in particular writing detailed emails and letters

ADDITIONAL SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE THAT WOULD BE LOOKED UPON FAVOURABLY:

  • Experience working or volunteering in a social and community support setting, or training in human services, community services or social work
  • Experience in recruiting, motivating and managing volunteers
  • Experience in community engagement or campaigns
  • Experience or interest in urban planning or public and active transport

ABOUT THE ROLE

The Assistant Electorate Officer will support the Member of Parliament in their role of serving the electorate and representing the electorate in the Queensland Parliament. The Assistant Electorate Officer will report to the Electorate Officer, then the Member.

Your key jobs will be:

  • Be a welcoming face and a listening ear at the electorate office reception desk for any walk-ins and phone calls
  • Liaise with constituents, groups and organisations who contact the electorate office for information and assistance (via face-to-face, phone calls, emails or physical mail)
  • Lead on the management of Amy’s diary
  • Assist with general enquiries from constituents concerning a wide range of community, social and political issues
  • Assist constituents with a range of problems using government and community help networks
  • Advocate on behalf of constituents to a range of government, community and public bodies
  • Carry out research on issues relating to constituent enquiries and information required by the team
  • Assist with preparing and distributing formal communication between Amy and constituents including letters, flyers, surveys and other material
  • Look after the management of the Member's accounts and Acquittal System records
  • Assist with electronic filing, database management and other office admin tasks
  • Assist the Community Campaigner with various campaign tasks as required, including assisting at pop-up offices, forums and events

Electorate Officers are Parliamentary Service employees. The terms and conditions of employment of Electorate Office Staff are outlined in the Parliamentary Service Act 1988, the Queensland Parliamentary Service Award – State 2015, relevant Certified Agreements and administrative arrangements approved by the Clerk of the Parliament or the Speaker.

  • Salary range: $2,622.30–$2,909.80 per F/N minimum (full-time rate)*
  • Hours: Part-time, at 4 days per week, Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday
  • Status: 4 days permanent part-time
  • Location: The South Brisbane Electorate Office, 1/90 Vulture St, West End, Brisbane.

The successful applicant will be required to submit a National Criminal History Check prior to the appointment.
