Amaroo Neighbourhood Centre is looking for a motivated leader to be our next Op Shop Manager to run our centre-based Op Shop and lead our fantastic volunteers.

  • Classification: Retail Employee Award Level 8
  • Hours: Permanent Part Time 32.5 hrs per week, Monday- Friday

Background

Amaroo Neighbourhood Centre acknowledges the Wurundjeri Woi Wurrung of the Kulin Nation, the traditional Owners of the land the Centre is located and pays respect to their Elders past, present and emerging.

The Amaroo Neighbourhood Centre (ANC) opened initially as an op-shop/Fix-it Centre in 1980 arising from a need in the west ward of Waverley for a local organisation providing a range of goods and services that the local residents could afford. The ANC now provides a range of community support services, holds a wide selection of classes and is home to one of Melbourne's best Op shops. ANC was incorporated in June 1986.

We are funded by DHHS, grant opportunities, Op-Shop revenue and the generous support of the Monash City Council. ANC is a Not-For-Profit Organisation.

The Role

This role provides an opportunity to develop and improve our retail space and the systems in place to ensure optimal operations within a community organisation based in Melbourne’s Inner East, in the City of Monash.

The Op Shop Manager is responsible to the ANC Committee of Management and will work beside the ANC Coordinator. Role requirements include but not limited to: recruitment and rostering of volunteers, sales and budgets for the Op Shop hiring, managing donations and sorting.

The Manager is responsible for:

  • Managing rosters for volunteer staff.
  • Recruitment of volunteers when necessary.
  • Training volunteers in customer service and ensuring that they act in a courteous and respectful manner including compliance with relevant health and safety standards and directives.
  • Placing orders as necessary.
  • Organising the pick-up of donated goods from charity bins and private donors.
  • Ensure sorting is carried out with suitable, safe standards in place.
  • The removal of dumped rubbish and unsaleable goods. 
  • Researching and pricing donated goods that may be of an antique nature or of high value.
  • Monies taken during the day and banking.  Keeping records of incurred expenses associated with the running of the Op-Shop and to ensure payment of all accounts associated with Op-Shop operation.
  • The Manager is responsible for any telephone enquiries and personal enquiries related to the Op Shop and to make sure these are handled in a polite and helpful manner and that confidentiality is always respected.

Experience in retail management is required and an understanding of a Not-for-Profit organisation is preferred.
