THE ORGANISATION
All Things Equal is a social enterprise providing purposeful, paid employment, training and work-readiness for people with disability in hospitality settings. The organisation runs several stream of inclusive employment including a fresh take on the typical cafe in Melbourne, providing people with disabilities ‘mainstream’ work. The cafe also employs core staff without disability, to provide adequate training, mentorship and support, and to ensure everyone is set up to thrive and succeed.
All Things Equal cafe is based in Carlisle St, Balaclava.
THE ROLE
We are seeking a superstar casual Chef that is as passionate as we are in providing a workplace environment for people to thrive. Working with our existing team of amazing chefs, you will execute and deliver a high quality, fresh, seasonal menu to the customers who frequent our cafe. You will provide hands-on, individualised support and guidance to our back of house staff to develop their skills and confidence in the kitchen, whilst ensuring exceptional standards are maintained.
This role is perfect for someone looking to be a part of an exciting not-for-profit, working with some brilliant individuals and wanting to make a difference.
Availability to work on Fridays and Sundays is essential, with flexibility to work across one or two other days per week highly regarded.
SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
- A talented chef with solid hospitality experience
- An understanding of the disability space and knowledge / appreciation of the need to provide individualised support
- Excellent communication skills
- Ability to motivate, mentor and support an incredible back of house team, all with a set of unique qualities with and without disability
- Motivate and inspire the team to provide an experience that delivers a sense of achievement for the team members and subsequently for the customers
- Must harness patience and encourage a supportive, positive team environment
- Support high quality food safety standards, hygiene and OH&S in the kitchen
- Strong work ethic and excellent communication
- Willing to work weekends and early mornings
- Enthusiastic to grow and support our vision
QUALIFICATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS
- Relevant Trade Qualifications
- Level 1 Safe Food Handling certificate (or willing to obtain)
- A current First Aid certificate (or willing to obtain)
- Valid Visa and Australian working rights
- Working With Children's Check and Police Check (or willing to obtain)

IMPORTANT DETAILS
- We are seeking interest from individuals with availability to work casual / part-time, approximately 2-3 days per week
- The cafe operates 7.30am - 3pm Monday to Friday and 8am - 3pm on weekends
- You must be available to work on Fridays and Sundays, and ideally have flexibility to work across one or two other days per week
