Campaigner - Better Chicken Commitment - Flexible Location

Australian Alliance for Animals

Play a crucial role in improving the lives of farmed animals by managing the Better Chicken Commitment Campaign for the Australian Alliance for Animals and its campaign partners. This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced campaigner to lead the development and execution of a high-impact farmed animal welfare campaign.

About the Australian Alliance for Animals

The Australian Alliance for Animals is a national charity leading a strategic alliance of Australia’s major animal welfare organisations to create an independent animal welfare policy framework that works for animals, not against them. Our members include Animals Australia, World Animal Protection Australia, Humane Society International Australia, Compassion in World Farming, FOUR PAWS Australia and Voiceless, the animal protection institute.

Through our programs, we lead sector-wide support for crucial reforms, hold decision-makers to account, and bring our members and allies together to strengthen representation of animals. Launched in March 2022, we have a focus on effective animal advocacy.

Our 2023-2026 Strategic Plan includes four high impact ambitions aimed at reforming animal welfare standards. The Campaigner - Better Chicken Commitment will focus specifically on ambition 3, which aims to achieve widespread uptake of the Better Chicken Commitment to improve the lives of hundreds of millions of Australian chickens.

About the Better Chicken Commitment

Over 700 million chickens are raised and slaughtered for meat in Australia every year. The Better Chicken Commitment (BCC) is a science-based, six-point global chicken welfare policy that addresses issues related to breeding for fast-growth and high-yield, housing, stocking density, and slaughter. The BCC specifies the improvements needed across the food industry to give chickens bred for meat lives worth living.

The Australian BCC campaign is a collaborative advocacy campaign managed by the Alliance for Animals and supported by Animals Aotearoa and other signatories to the Australia-New Zealand Better Chicken Commitment, which aims to significantly improve the welfare of meat chickens by increasing the uptake of the BCC in Australia.
