about us

Ability Assist aims to increase the independence, skills and quality of life of our clients who include people with support needs. We provide a range of services including in-home and community based support for young people in out-of-home care. We also provide residential housing for people with a disability and/or contingency and long term housing for young people.

Ability Assist is looking for

  • High quality Youth Residential Support Workers who are experienced working with complex behaviours of concerns within a therapeutic framework.
  • Above award wage paid when working with complex clients
  • Support Workers who strive to help others and have a genuine desire to make a difference in a young persons life,
  • Ability to transport client to a range of different services and appointments;
  • Demonstrated ability to deal with, and support people to overcome, unpredictable, complex situations and behaviours,
  • High level of interpersonal skills including the ability to consult and negotiate with a range of internal; and external stakeholders,
  • Strong problem solving and decision-making skills and the ability to work well under pressure,
  • Ability to work autonomously to complete tasks within set timeframes,
  • Demonstrated commitment to quality client services and continuous improvement strategies,
  • Flexibility across a 7 day/night roster, which includes shift work, periodic weekend, public holidays, night shifts & overnight sleepovers,
  • Knowledge and understanding of Child Protection Residential Youth Work,
  • Knowledge and understanding of the NDIS.

To be considered, you must have

  • Certificate IV in Child, Youth and Family Intervention (Residential and Out of Home Care) will be given top priority or a relevant tertiary qualification (Min Cert IV) in a health, welfare or social science discipline with additional completion of Trauma Informed Units (top-up units).
  • Minimum 2 years' experience
  • A current Australian driver's license, reliable car and comprehensive third-party insurance.
  • A current Working with Children's Check.
  • NDIS Screening Clearance
  • Covid-19 Vaccination Digital Certificate
  • Satisfactory compliance with all employment screening.
  • Current First Aid and CPR or willing to obtain
  • Willingness and ability to complete in-house training as required
  • Other online short courses will also be required such as NDIS Orientation module plus Fire Training.
  • Good computer skills
  • You must have a good command of the English language, both spoken and written.
  • You must have an ongoing legal right without restrictions to work in Australia Temporary visa holders will not be considered.
