Ability Assist

Ability Assist aims to increase the independence, skills and quality of life of our clients who include people with support needs. We provide a range of services including in-home and community based support and a day program for people with a disability. We also provide residential housing for people with a disability and/or contingency and long term housing for young people who require care.

We are looking for experienced and reliable disability support workers to work in client's homes and community based access in the northern suburbs. A variety of are available.

You will be required to provide a high standard of care and support to a client/s with primarily intellectual disabilities, and enable them to access a wide variety of activities both in and out of the home. You must be a good team player who is experienced in using a therapeutic based approach to assist clients to achieve their goals.

Ongoing commitment is essential.

You will be responsible for:

  1. Provision of direct support and role modelling to the client such as assisting with living skills, communicating and interacting, facilitating community inclusion, maintaining an appropriate physical environment, providing transportation, following behaviour support plans and encouraging the client in becoming an active citizen in the local communities.
  2. Participate in Support planning and monitoring by providing input for planning and developing individual goals and outcomes with client; plus monitoring, documenting, and reporting progress toward meeting outcomes..
  3. Participate in training, support and appraisal sessions.
  4. Maintaining health and safety for both the client and staff.
  5. Supporting and promoting client rights.
  6. Adhering to policies, procedures, and code of conduct.
  7. Complete all required documentation, and other office tasks as necessary

To be considered, you must have:

  • NDIS Worker Screening
  • COVID Vaccinations
  • Minimum of Certificate IV in Disability or equivalent
  • Relevant experience
  • Reliability - able to commit to shifts as advised during recruitment process
  • A genuine passion for working with, and empowering clients with a disability.
  • Demonstrated skill in supporting people with major behaviours of concern within a positive and therapeutic frame work.
  • Good communication skills both written and verbal
  • Ability to work as a team member working towards a common goal.
  • A current Australian driver's license, reliable car and comprehensive third party insurance are essential.
  • A current Working with Children's Check.
  • Satisfactory compliance with all employment screening.
  • Current First Aid and CPR
  • Willingness and ability to complete in-house training as required
  • Other online short courses will also be required such as NDIS Orientation module plus Fire Training.
  • Good computer skills
  • You must have an ongoing legal right to work in Australia, without restrictions, to be considered
